About the Somali Community Development Trust (SCDT)

Founded in 2002 and formally registered as a charity and company limited by guarantee in 2004, the Somali Community Development Trust (SCDT) has been a cornerstone of community support and empowerment in Camden for over two decades.

We exist to uplift and strengthen the Somali community, particularly those who are vulnerable or facing barriers to opportunity. From supporting families in need to helping young people gain skills and confidence, SCDT is dedicated to improving lives and building a brighter collective future.

Staff and Trustee Training Policy

The Somali Community Development Trust (SCDT) is committed to continuous learning and professional development for all members of the organisation. We believe that well-trained staff, volunteers, and trustees are essential to delivering high-quality services and achieving our mission.

SCDT actively encourages participation in training and development opportunities offered by both statutory and voluntary sector organisations. These programmes help strengthen our team’s skills, knowledge, and capacity to meet the evolving needs of our community.

In recent years, our staff and committee members have attended a range of training sessions provided by:

  • 5E Ltd at the Selby Centre

  • Voluntary Action Camden (VAC)

  • Regent High School

  • British Somali Community

Through ongoing training, SCDT ensures that all team members remain competent, confident, and compliant with best practices in community service delivery, safeguarding, governance, and equality.
