We deliver:

These programmes are designed to promote mutual support, reduce isolation, and encourage personal growth — helping families build stability and resilience together.

Men’s Programme

Our Men’s Programme promotes economic participation, wellbeing, and personal growth through community-based support and practical development activities.

Somali-born men face some of the lowest employment rates in the UK, with limited access to higher education and professional opportunities. SCDT is working to change this reality.

The programme focuses on:

  • Economic development and financial independence

  • Micro-enterprise and employment support

  • Mindfulness, wellbeing, and physical activity

  • Referrals to specialist and external services

By supporting men to gain new skills and confidence, we aim to reduce isolation, improve livelihoods, and strengthen family and community roles.

Youth Programmes

We engage young people through educational, creative, and empowering initiatives that inspire them to become confident, skilled, and active citizens within their communities.

Our youth offer includes:

  • Digital skills and technology training

  • Employment-focused initiatives such as job-search support and interview preparation

  • Reformative and transformational mentoring, advice, and advocacy

  • Referrals to trusted partner organisations and external support services

Through these programmes, we aim to strengthen young people’s confidence, nurture leadership, and open pathways to education and employment.

Somali Link Worker Service

Our Somali Link Worker plays a vital role in strengthening communication and understanding between schools, families, and the Somali community.

The service works closely with school-based Home/School Link Workers, community groups, and education partners to build trust with Somali parents and to help schools identify and address the challenges faced by Somali young people.

Regular one-to-one meetings are held with pupils at Key Stage 4 (KS4) to support self-esteem, motivation, and engagement in both school and extra-curricular learning opportunities.

The Link Worker also collaborates with Connexions PAS, Mentors, KS4/5 Progression Advisors, and EMAS, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach to improving educational outcomes and student wellbeing.

Our Plans

The current focus is on training, coaching, and inspiring individuals who are unemployed or have limited skills. Our goal is to develop and implement new initiatives identified as priorities by our staff, service users, and external stakeholders — including funders. This approach aims to build on and strengthen the progress already achieved, ensuring that our work continues to deliver meaningful and sustainable outcomes for the community.
